Happy Birthday Mom & Happy New Year!

Tonight we celebrated Mom's 53rd B-day and then we all stayed and celebrated the New year together. It was the first time that we have all celebrated this holiday together so it was very special for my parents and for the rest of us!

Yeah

Well, my doctors office called me today with the results on my second fetal fibronectin test and this time it was negative. So now I can enjoy a few weeks without having to worry about going into labor anytime soon. Woo Hoo! My next appointment is on the 4th and they are going to determine my fate from here on out. It already sounds like I won't be going back to work before having the baby but we will see. I will also be doing my glucose test that day so I better get all the sweets in this week that I can. Ha ha!

Merry Christmas

Today was very busy for us. First, Santa visited our house so we opened all of our gifts and had some breakfast and played some games. Then, Harleigh got picked up by Papa and headed over to Mimi's to have Christmas with Jeremy and the rest of his family. Jarrod and I just enjoyed the quiet afternoon and watched a movie together. Around 6:00pm, we picked up Harleigh and then headed over to Jarrod's dads for Christmas with him. He cooked us up a feast and showered us with many more gifts. Thank you so much Pete, Jay, Jessica, Lauren, Rhonda & Rodney for all the nice gifts! I don't think we called it a night until around midnight. What a day!

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve was a little different for us this year but exciting since we Texans were getting snow on Christmas! Church was cancelled because of the weather so we just bundled up and went to Mom and Dad's for some yummy appetizers and then some warm stew. Before we headed over there though, Harleigh had to go and put out here Reindeer food (oatmeal) all over the yard so Santa could find her house. Then after we slid back home from Mom and Dad's she set out her cookies, milk and the letter that she wrote Santa. Here is her version....

Dear Sata Clos
Mery Christas
Woch you giv me a ntindo ds.
Love Harleigh
(Dear Santa Clause, Merry Christmas! Won't you give me a Nintendo DS. Love, Harleigh)

It was the cutest letter ever!

More Bedrest

Well, they called today with the dreaded outcome on my Fetal Fibronectin Test. It was positive. I was completely thrown off guard once again. So two more weeks of bedrest and then they will test me again. They are also making me come back to the doctor first thing again next week so I will let you all know how that goes.

Sono Pics

Rhett Howard Baggett

Today, I had my doctors appointment with my specialist and he took these wonderful pictures of Rhett for us. He also checked my cervix (measuring at 3.5cm) and took a look at the placenta again. He said everything looked nice so if my Fetal Fibronectin test comes back negative then I will get to go back to work next week. Yeah! Here is a little info on that test......

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fetal Fibronectin Test
According to the March of Dimes, half a million babies are born prematurely each year (approximately 10 percent of all pregnancies), making premature birth the second most common cause of infant death in the United States. To help predict preterm delivery, some doctors now suggest that women with symptoms be given the fetal fibronectin (fFN) test.
The fFN test is similar to a Pap smear: your doctor will place a speculum in your vagina and take a swab sample of your cervical secretions. The lab technicians look for a protein called fetal fibronectin, which is produced by the fetal membranes and serves as a sort of glue to attach the fetal sac to the uterine lining. The protein is normally found in your vagina during the first half of your pregnancy, but is absent after the 22nd week until it reappears at the end of the last trimester (one to three weeks before term labor). If it is present between your 22nd and 37th week, it means the glue is disintegrating ahead of schedule and that you may go into preterm labor soon.
The fFN test is not routinely given to women experiencing a normal pregnancy since it has not been shown to accurately predict preterm labor in women who are not at high risk and have no symptoms. However, if you are considered high risk or have symptoms of preterm labor, your doctor will probably order the test. A negative fFN result can put you more at ease and avoid unnecessary interventions such as bedrest or hospitalization. A negative fFN test result is a highly reliable predictor that labor will not occur in the next two weeks; however, a positive result is a less reliable predictor of preterm labor.
A positive fFN test result may prompt your doctor to give you labor-suppressing drugs to hold off delivery for about 48-hours, long enough to administer corticosteroids to speed up the development of your baby's lungs and improve his or her chances of survival.
If you are having symptoms of preterm labor between your 24th and 34th weeks, you have a one in 25 chance of delivering in the next two weeks. If you take the fFN test and receive a negative result, your chances of delivering within the next two weeks go down to one in 125. However, a positive result means your risk of delivering in the next two weeks increases to one in six. If you are considered high risk, you may be asked to take the test every two weeks until you reach 34 weeks or deliver your baby. Women who are already showing symptoms of preterm labor should be tested at 24 to 25 weeks, while women who are high risk without symptoms should be tested as early as 22 weeks and then repeatedly tested as appropriate.
Symptoms of preterm labor include regular uterine contractions that last more than one hour; backache, pain, or pressure; stomach cramping and/or diarrhea; spotting or bloody discharge; and thinning or dilation of the cervix. Early dilation, although something to monitor, is not always an indication of preterm labor. The external opening to the cervix may open slightly, especially in women who have had previous births. However, it is important to look for other changes as well, such as thinning of the cervix and whether or not the internal opening is dilating as well.
Head Lice
This morning I had a huge surprise while I was doing Harleigh's hair for school. A BUG! Didn't know what it was at first so I kept looking around and found a few more and said OH NO! Harleigh started to completely freak out and cry. Asking me if she was going to die? If they were poisonous or if they were going to eat her head? I had to reassure her, as I was panicking, that everything was going to be okay. I quickly stripped her down and put her straight into the bathtub as I tried to figure out what to do next. I called mom and thank goodness she lives so close to Walgreen's. She said she would quick pick me up a head lice kit and run it over before she heads to work. In the meantime, I stripped Harleigh's bed and threw them in the wash on hot water and started boiling water for all her combs. Mom finally dropped of the kit and headed off to work. So now it was just me, the head lice amateur, and Harleigh! Yikes! Reading the directions carefully, we first shampooed Harleigh's head and killed many more disturbing lice. After the shampoo, we had to gel her hair and use a special comb to remove eggs and any other dead louse that might of not fallen out during the shampoo. After this was all done, her school told me to make sure and blow dry her hair so we did that and then I put her on our bar stool and told her she couldn't touch anything. Poor baby! I then proceeded to clean, clean, clean. I vacuumed the couches, sprayed them down with treatment spray, sprayed down her mattress and ours as well. Continued washing, bagged all of her stuffed animals, finished boiling her combs and then was off to treat myself. Luckily, for me, I found nothing in the water after my treatment. What a relief. Finally, Amy showed up to help me nit(eggs) pick Harleigh's hair. Even though the treatment killed all the lice, there were still eggs stuck on some of her hair strands. The pediatrician just told me that the best way to get rid of them all is to manually pick them out. So Amy nit picked, for as long as Harleigh would let her, while I continued cleaning. Then Brooke showed up to help as well. What lovely sisters I have. Now we were just having ourselves a whole nit picking party. How exciting! Then..........all of the sudden I felt something on the back of my head and pulled a louse out of my hair. AHHHHHH! Brooke then took the next hour and went through my hair strand by strand and found one more louse and one egg. Talk about getting the chills all over your body. Yuck! After this, I used the restroom only to find one more huge surprise....a toilet full of blood. So I called the doc, left a message and jumped into the bath to wash my hair again. They soon called me back and I got in humongous trouble for doing everything I had during the day. Dr. Tabor was not a happy camper and said to STAY OFF OF MY FEET! Oops! So the rest of the evening, Jarrod and my family finished up all the cleaning and laundry! We will not be able to treat ourselves again until next Thursday. So Happy Nit Picking for us until then!
Five more weeks of bed rest
That is right, just when I thought everything was going so good! This afternoon at work I got my unexpected surprise in the toilet AGAIN! Blood, blood, blood! Of course, Dr. Tabor wanted to see me again so off to the clinic I went. Mom was close in the area so she met me there. I just figured it would be the same old story but this time we had another little surprise. The bleeding was still coming from my placenta but we also found out that my cervix is starting to shorten. It dropped a whole centimeter in one week. (4.34cm 10/29 - 2.96cm 11/6) If it drops to 1.8cm then I will be having surgery to sew it shut. So to prevent, I am sentenced to five weeks of bed rest. Five weeks because he wants me to get to 24 weeks before reevaluating. I think this is the age at which my baby could survive outside the womb. So wish me luck and if anyone needs to talk, feel free to call.....I'll be just laying around!
